Hi! My name is Alyssa (she/they) and I started Tidepool Knits in early 2022. I live in Sonoma County, California, hidden in the redwoods near the coast. I am a queer marine biologist and my knitting patterns are inspired by the ocean, my work, and nature.
My goal is to design patterns that are fun for both beginners and advanced knitters alike, and use this art to contribute to causes near and dear to me. To that end, all of the proceeds (after transaction fees) from the Gender Unicorn of the Sea Cowl pattern are being donated to an organization supporting trans rights in Texas. I love seeing others create works from my designs, so please tag me (@tidepoolknits on instagram) so I can see and share any of your creations from my patterns! You can also follow me there or sign up below for testing calls. Happy Knitting! Alyssa |
Collaborations and free patterns
I am interested in collaborating with small yarn business and independent dyers. Please note that I will always donate a portion of my pattern proceeds to support causes (see my Values Statement), but I do not require dyers I collaborate with to do the same. If your business's values align with mine, reach out! I'd love to use your yarn for designs or collaborate on a design together. If you are a dyer and want to use one of my patterns to showcase your yarn, please contact me for a free pattern. If my pattern prices are out of your reach, please contact me; I reserve a handful of every pattern for folks whose budgets don't have room for the cost.
Values Statement
Tidepool Knits aims to be inclusive of everyone. I support Black Lives Matter. I believe in Land Back. I support my LGBTQIA+ community and I believe in free safe accessible abortion for all. I am always working on my anti-racism, anti-capitalism, and dismantling heteronormativity. I am a scientist and I love vaccines. Proceeds from pattern sales will always go towards supporting some of these causes. I will continuously work on making this space more inclusive, and am currently working on improving the accessibility of my patterns. I appreciate being called out when I perpetuate or do harm.
